The Art of Travelling Slowly.

Tomorrow evening, February 23rd right after the AGM, or perhaps right after a cup of tea after the AGM, or perhaps before the AGM, I really don’t know, but tomorrow evening in any case, Peter Hyndman, me, ( forgive me it’s quite strange talking about oneself in the third person) will be talking about himself!

It’s not quite like that though, it’s not just about me, there are two of us.

For a little over a decade for half of each year my wife Jo and I have based ourselves on a small boat somewhere on Europe’s inland waterways practicing our devotion to the art of travelling slowly.

Unlike this notice, my chat is likely to begin in a well constructed, somewhat informative manner, and then deviate as more or less interesting things distract us, just as they do when one is travelling at an appropriate pace.

Come along and discover how you too can spend half of your life doing nothing at all and never quite get finished.

Before the sun sets on another year…

It seems as though it was only last night that we were enjoying each other’s company at our Annual Awards Night! For those who were unable to be there, a list of award recipents and images can be found at this link, and no doubt a full report will trickle out over the coming days (or weeks).

Our calendar for the year is now complete, so it’s time to look forward to next year.

A complete Calendar, Set Subjects Schedule and our Rules and Procedures for the coming year can now be found in one complete document – our new “Member’s Handbook” which can be downloaded from the following link:

If this link does not work in your email, you can find it either in the notice of the front page of our website, or on the “INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS” link on the site, where it will be available for the full year.

Please note that these documents are current at this date and supercede all earlier releases.

The Biggest Auction Event of the Year

This Friday NIGHT is not only our annual awards night, it’s that time of the year when you can rid yourself of all the gear that’s been hampering your photographic progress, and pick up something that will put yourself firmly in a place where you will be scoring eights every month.

For instance if you have a Box Brownie, bring it along to be auctioned and you might pick up some of the latest and greatest Nikon gear donated by someone looking to upgrade to Canon stuff.

All proceeds will go to the club coffers so clear the spaces on your full shelves and be prepared to fill them again on Friday night!

We have a series of books and miscellany but would welcome more stuff.  Please contact Ty or Gerry with details of your donations and don’t forget to bring them on the night!

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT FIND IN ESK!

NEXT SATURDAY the 14th of November those of us who are feeling adventurous, want to test themselves and enjoy good company, will travel to Esk for lunch and make one image of the main street of Esk. This is an A Grade and B Grade competition.

We can car pool as we are all going to the same location, we could begin at a central spot and go from there.

We will begin at one of the many cafes in Esk at 10.30am, it is a 1hour and 50 minutes trip from the Sunny Coast. After a nice cup of tea/coffee we will begin to search the main street of Esk looking for the winning image. After you have found that image take one photograph of it, that will be the first in your card, so empty your card and format it before leaving home.

After you have your winning image, you will be free to capture whatever other images you want to.

After having made the image take it home and post process it as much as you wish, you then, will send the original image and the processed image to me, Gerry Gibson.

At 12.30 we will have lunch at the Nash Gallery and Cafe at 212 Ipswich Street, Esk.

You will have until Thursday the 19th to submit your image, during that time you can do whatever you wish to your image, remember though, to win you will have to start off with an excellent image.

Send a raw or jpg of your original photo before manipulation, as well as a jpg of your final image.

Make it as good as you can, we all will have an equal chance of winning the cherry ripes. And then we will go home via a picturesque route and a cup of tea!!

That one image will be judged by some of our top judges, and the Cherry Ripes will be awarded to the A Grade winner and the B Grade winner, at our Christmas/Awards Night on Friday the 4th of December.

You may note there have been some changes made to this outing.

I hope we all enjoy the day.

Can you let Gerry know by Thursday the 12th if you will be able to attend.

TOMORROW: A REAL MYSTERY

DON’T FORGET tomorrow night is MYSTERY NIGHT! (Wednesday 28th October).

As the year is coming rapidly to an end, why not come along to our Mystery Share Night for a bit of fun, fellowship, and photography, but most important of all DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR CAMERA WITH YOUR 50MM LENS SO YOU CAN CAPTURE ALL THE FUN!!

THEN: What happens in Maryborough stays in Maryborough

After supper Greg Larchin is going to share (maybe not all) but l’m sure most of the happenings from the trip to Maryborough that was organized by Greg and Gerry and attended by some of our Club members and partners.

Picture-Esk

On the 14th of November those who are feeling adventurous and want to test themselves and enjoy good company will travel to Esk for lunch and make one image of the main street of Esk.

We can car pool as we are all going to the same location, we could begin at a central spot and go from there.

This will be just ONE image, to do this you will walk up and down the street it’s not too long, and find the image you wish to make.

You will then have until Tuesday the 17th to submit your image, during that time you can do whatever you wish to your image, remember though to win you will have to start off with an excellent image, send a jpg of your original photo before manipulation, as well a jpg of your final image.

The RULES are: TAKE JUST ONE PHOTO, no warm up ones.

Make it as good as you can, we all will have an equal chance of winning the cherry ripes. And then we will go home via a picturesque route and a cup of tea!!

That one image will be judged by some of our top judges and the Cherry Ripes will be awarded at our Christmas/Awards Night on Friday the 4th of December.

Island Time!

Mark Sunday the 11th of October 2020 in your calendar now, and email Gerry to let him know you are free!

This will be a day on Bribie Island where we meet for morning tea (or coffee). There we will be divided into teams depending on the number of participants, to compete for Cherry Ripe prizes, making photos in response to the clues given to each team.

The first set of clues will have us exploring Woorim where we will meet for lunch, before travelling to Bellara to photograph the answers to more clues before finally finishing off with a shot of an iconic Sunshine Coast view over afternoon tea and heading home, doubtless tired but happy.

Some things to look forward to next year!

Bruce Atkinson – The Glasshouses, from Bald Knob Road.

As outlined by our President Gerry at our Competition night this evening, we are introducing some significant changes for Club Competitions in the coming year:

MONOCHROME IS BACK!

Each month’s set subjects will be run both as colour and monochrome competitions, with the definition of monochrome as follows:
Monochrome
Any photograph containing shades of only one colour. If toning is carried out, it must be over the total photograph – unless otherwise expressly permitted for a particular competition, partial toning and/or the addition of one extra colour is not acceptable in a monochrome section.

ART BECOMES “CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY”.

The “Art” category remains with a new name and a more descriptive definition:

Creative Photography
Creative photography is an extension of conventional photography into creative art. Its purpose is to stimulate creative thoughts and encourage experimentation with new ideas going beyond a simple photograph.

There should be a significant photographic content, and inclusion of mixed media of any kind (photocopy, paint, transfer, digital etc.) is welcome. It can be a collage or a montage.

The final result must be all the photographer’s own work including the original image.

(NOTE – this definition is for CCG Competition only and differs significantly from “creative” definitions in other external competitions.)

SET SUBJECTS 2021:

2021 Set Subject definitions are always available for download on our website and may be found under the “INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS” link.

It’s life, but not as we knew it!

Our next competition night is Wednesday 12th – just two nights away, and as previously advised we are trialling meeting in person at the Caloundra Bowls Club with a new spacious seating arrangement.

This will be a trial to see how we can manage compliance with the Covid 19 regulations for gatherings, so we do ask everyone to be patient as we feel our way through them. We understand that in the present circumstances not everyone will be comfortable attending, and we will certainly welcome any relevant comment or criticism before finalising our plans for the rest of the year’s meetings.

You can help by not coming if you have even the mildest symptoms of cold or flu or are feeling in any way unwell.   If you have been to a Covid Hotspot in the last 14 days we’d appreciate it if you just don’t come this time either!

Sanitiser will be provided at the entry for your use on arrival, and you will be required to sign the attendance register before entering.

The room has been rearranged to comply with social distancing requirements – all seats will be 1.5 meters apart, so unless you are a couple you are asked to not move the chairs around.

Supper will be provided for you as usual, and you will have to serve yourself at the counter using disposable cups etc. No one will be permitted to enter the kitchen.

Before the meeting closes we request that you wipe over your chair with a sanitiser wipe (provided) before stacking it against the wall.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation, in these strange times.

Contrary to the advice of earlier today, which was sent in error, PRINT COMPETITIONS will not resume until we are satisfied that we can manage them in a safe manner and in compliance with the regulations.
