SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

REMINDER!! 6:45 Tonight!

There probably won’t be a huge crowd there busting down the doors, but there will be quite a bit of stuff to see/buy/ take for free before the formal bit of our meeting tonight.

Please be there early, we are suggesting 6:45 so that we can get underway on time!!

by Peter Hyndman, November 24, 2021

You will need to be there early!

Next Wednesday 24th November will be bigger than big so you will need to be there by 6:45pm if you want to grab a bargain. I’m not sure that there’ll be any Nana Mouskouri albums left by the time you get there, but there will be a wide range of camera equipment of all vintages, mostly in very good condition.

We are opening our doors early just so you can have the opportunity to browse the pre-loved photographic gear at very reasonable prices.   There will be books, DVD’s photographic mounts and accessories on display.   Some for sale, some for free.

So put a few Dollars in your pocket in case something takes your fancy and with Christmas around the corner who knows!  Many thanks to Greg Larchin for his efforts in assembling this collection and curating the sale.

But wait, there’s more! Greg will be demonstrating EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW on printing, mounting, triptych, resizing and getting your photos ready for Club Competition.

This has been a request from YOU so come along to find out how to present your photos and what is expected by the Judges

Then if there’s time:

Bruce Atkinson will then prepare us for the Set Subject in February on Repetition in Architecture for 2022. Followed by Peter Hyndman speaking on My Photo Club – so please bring your questions criticisms and comments on how you use our website and we’ll see if we can incorporate them into the next version.

See you there!   Don’t forget at 6.45pm.

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS-
We are in the early stages of developing a webpage that can be updated regularly with information on non-club competitions. Check it out here and please provide your feedback, particularly on what information you’d like to see incorporated in the future.

And the winner is..

After a tense battle over a very pleasant hour on the weekend, here a summary of the results of the competition with our Canadian Sister Club Competition .

Congratulations to our club of course, narrowly declared the winner after comparing average scores of two judges, and many thanks to our international judging panel and all who entered and contributed to making this premier event a success.

Ralph’s image Boat in Motion was the top scorer of the day with 9.3 out of a possible 10.

Boat in Motion – Ralph Brown

Annette, Helen and Ken all closely followed with 9.0 for their images respectively

Into the Mist – Annette Scott
Some distance to go yet. – Helen Debnam
Cotton Tree Sunset – Ken Brooks

One SCCC (Canada) member received a score of 9.0 for this beautiful Image of the camels in the desert. Unfortunately at the time of writing this post the title and author’s name are unavailable.

All present declared the event a success and as a result we will attempt to make these a regular feature of our yearly calendar.

My Friend Sunny is a Hooker!

Before some of you get all over-excited – here’s a holiday snap from almost exactly two years ago at a meeting of the Nanaimo Rug Hooking Group. While Nanaimo is a little bit further from the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia than Noosa is from Caloundra, you should get the impression that about now in Canada is the beginning of the “indoor sport” season.

If you enjoy talking to people in heated houses wearing flannel, while you are lounging around in shorts and bare feet, don’t forget tomorrow is your next big chance.

MEET OUR SISTER CLUB – from the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia TOMORROW – SATURDAY 13th November at 12:45PM. (Quarter to one).

That’s 1245Hrs, or if you are a Nikon user, when the big hand’s on 9 and the little hand’s nearly on 1.

Please contact Gerry if you haven’t got the Zoom Code by about 12:30.

Annual Awards and Perpetual Trophies

Hi All,

Just a gentle reminder that end of year is approaching and images and prints need to be in by Competition night, 3rd November 2021, which is less than 3 weeks away. This will also allow for images and prints submitted on the Competition night 3rd November 2021, to also be entered, if you so wish to.

This date has been set to allow for judging to be completed and time for the trophies and medallions to be engraved before the Annual Dinner night on 11th December 2021.

Also, a request to holders of perpetual trophies, if they could also be returned on or before competition night 3rd November 2021, as this will allow time for re-graving for this years’ winners.

Annual Awards

Criteria for awards and submitting images is summarised below:

Points are accumulated in each competition category throughout the year as follows.

• Four Award Points are given for a score of 9

• Three points for a score of 8
• Two points for a score of 7
• One point for a score of 6

The highest aggregate point scores in each category are presented with an Award.

In addition, members may also submit any of their DPI images entered during the year to be judged for Annual Awards in each category.

Only ONE DPI image can be entered in a category from those DPI images submitted in 2021.

Perpetual trophies are awarded for the following categories:

  • President’s Trophy (Print, subject, and definition previously provided by the President),
  • The Don Attree Founder’s Award (DPI Nature image),
  • The Robin Simpson Trophy (DPI Australian Landscape) and
  • The Ted Gillingham Trophy (Print, B-Grade, “My Country” based on the Dorothea Mackellar poem).

As usual, print images will also need to be entered into MPC for cataloguing, as well as the DPI competition entries.   These images for the Perpetual Trophies are to be new work by the maker and not entered into any competition in 2021 or accepted into previous club competitions. If images have received awards of 3 or less in previous competitions, they may however be submitted.

Any questions please do not hesitate to contact any Committee member, details for which can be found on the Members’ Directory
