SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

It’ll be a real bummer…

If we have to zero out your scores tomorrow night because you haven’t paid your annual fees!

Yes that’s right, at least half of us have started off the year in a little more laid back fashion than our treasurer would prefer! If you haven’t paid your fees could you please do so tonight or during the course of the day tomorrow.

Please?

Which of course leads us into another reminder that we will be meeting tomorrow virtually via Zoom for our Competition Night at 7:00 PM. Gerry will have a link out via email at about 6:30 with the details.

If you have missed our previous notices about payment of fees, log into our website while you still can, hit the “INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS” link and all you need to know can be found under a heading which not accidentally reads “BANKING DETAILS – HOW TO PAY FEES”

Some Important updates!

MEETINGS

In response to our State Government’s advices we will not be holding face-to face meetings in the month of February. This situation will hopefully not extend beyond then, but we will take further advice as it comes to hand.

Competition night will be held via Zoom and thanks to all print entrants who had a bit of a whirlwind ride at short notice, both print and DPI’s entries will be reviewed on the night.

More information on this and our proposed Share night activities will follow.

ANNUAL FEES

Thank you to almost half our members who actually paid their dues following our last notice. If (like me) you have not done so by the date of the competition night, no points will be awarded for your entries.

Please visit the “Information for Members” link on our website to find details of the amount owing and our banking information.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.

Our annual general meeting has been postponed until the March Share night, in the hope that we will be able to have an in person meeting by then.

Please note that the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Events Co-ordinator and Share night co-ordinator will need to be filled at that meeting, and we ask that you give some serious consideration as to how you may be able to assist in any of these roles.

Repetition

There’s a stack of repetition today!

1 – Competition Closing

Everyone will have been horrified to receive that email yesterday warning that the first competition for the year is closing shortly (tomorrow night actually).

Bruce had prepared a short overview of the subject for presentation at the last share night of the year. Thankfully it’s a simple subject but if you are like me, you still have time to review that document and get your entries together tomorrow afternoon!

You can see it on the website under the “INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS” link – where you’ll find it in “other documents” just below “Banking – HOW TO PAY FEES”, which brings me to my next point.

2. Annual Fees are Due shortly.

You will get a notice over the coming days, but it would be a shame if a little bit of bureaucratic oversight on our part caused you to miss out on the first round of competitions – be a dear and pay as soon as you can, it will make our life so much easier!

Which brings me to the next important announcement

3. HELP WANTED

We have an election coming up, and quite a few positions to fill. Some of those jobs (Convenors Events, Excursions and Share Night) could be shared. If you can take responsibility for one event this year, we’d all be grateful.

Please think about how you can help!

Don’t let us drown!

Here’s an interesting bit of trivia to take you into the new year:

There is only one person on our committee who has been a member of the club for longer than her tenure on the committee. That’s right, everyone else has been happily coerced (or was it press-ganged?) into service pretty much from the minute they walked through the door of their first meeting.

If it hadn’t been for Ann’s experience and steady hands pulling us out of the water every time we stumbled (and we have stumbled quite often) who knows where we might have ended up during those last couple of extraordinary years.

Ann has been serving the club for a very long time now, and is long overdue for a break. Next year (that’s tomorrow when you wake up, or tonight if you’ve stayed up for the fireworks), we will have a number of places to fill, and we’d love it if a couple of them were filled by people who have a few “club years” under their belt, just to give us all a bit of continuity and background knowledge.

Yes, our club is relatively small and if you’ve been around a while that means you’ve probably had your turn, but if you’ve had a couple of years off, we’d appreciate a hand to make the new year a truly great one for the Caloundra Camera Group!

Happy New Year to all our members and friends.

Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas everyone.

2021 is nearly over and 22 is on the way, our club is going to concentrate on education more in 22.

We will continue to have a monthly event where we go somewhere photographing something, because that’s what we do!!!

We will also have bi-monthly workshops concentrating on specific subjects, out and about with some of our senior members (senior in experience) leading the workshops (spreading the load).

If anyone has their thinking hats on and has an idea or two for next year; let any of our committee know and we can then introduce those great ideas into our activities, be they workshops, share nights, trips away  or what ever.

On behalf our our committee I wish everyone a happy and safe break at this time.
Kind Regards

Gerry Gibson

Time for a Break

It’s time for most of us to take a few deep breaths and catch a bit of a break before it all starts again.

Planning for next year is mostly complete but there are still a few little gaps in our programme and we know a few bigger gaps will be appearing in our management team. We are concerned that filling these will quite possibly be made more challenging as we all start moving about once again post the Covid lockdown era.

Therefore you can expect a few more messages like this one over the coming weeks, asking you to give some thought as to how much help you can provide in the coming year even if it’s just covering periodically for someone’s absence . Rest by all means, but please don’t hide!

In the meantime, if you feel so inclined, we know of a couple of major competitions closing in late January to keep you busy until we meet again:

AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT PRIZE

Make sense of almost anything!

If you have no clear direction regarding Caloundra Camera Group Competitions and Meetings for 2022, we have a deal for you!

Log in to our website, click on the “INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS” button and download our Members Handbook for 2022.

In that document you will find our Calendar for the coming year, our Set Subjects, a Members Directory and of course the Rules and Regulations as they apply to next year’s competition. As usual you can download all those things as separate documents if you wish.

As always if you find an error or have any questions regarding anything in those documents, your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you to all who have entered images in the last year’s competitions, have been to share nights, attended events and supported our group in any way!

Our awards night is always the culmination of our year’s activities and it’s time to offer our congratulations to all of our winners. A complete catalogue of all competition winners and annual awards recipients is now available for view and can be found AT THIS LINK.

Remember when phone books were a thing?

Web rules internationally are confusing to say the least when it comes to privacy, and wise web hosts tend to err on the side of caution.

That in a nutshell is why we haven’t been able to publish an online members directory with actual contacts in it.

This year we’ve created a simple telephone list which will be distributed with the Member’s Handbook. It will contain members names and one telephone number and will be distributed in PDF form to member only.

If you have an objection to others having access to your number or wish to provide an alternative contact number, please get back to me (my email address is in the mail you will have received) by the end of this week Friday 10th December, so that we can work towards publication shortly thereafter.

Thanks, Peter.
