SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

Life as Arte

Join us at our Share Night next Wednesday where Nikki Olivier will be our special guest, bringing her story of passion and purpose in her photography.

Of course there will be other special people speaking too, but you will have to come along to find out who!

Have you seen this person?

He or she has volunteered to help on every committee next year.

I checked our membership directory (you can too by clicking on the grey “MEMBERS” link on our website), and then on “MEMBERS DIRECTORY” link at the top left of the page that follows.

It turns out there are quite a few people who are so close to identical in appearance one could be forgiven for thinking they were clones, so I am going to nominate them all.

To avoid this fate and to help us just a bit, could you please add your profile photo as soon as possible.

And on the same very serious note, this is the time of the year when I start to compile the members directory for club distribution. (Phone number only)

While you are in there adding your photo (or updating it at least) could you please check that your email address and preferred phone number is current so that we can contact you to tell you what you have won.

Street is Neat – with some practice afterwards!

While next year’s set subject list hasn’t been finalised, a little birdy has been whispering that one of the subjects might possibly maybe involve Street Photography.

Just to be sure everyone is up to speed on what that might be, on Wednesday night we will welcome back our guest speaker Peter Mitchelson.

Like most of us, Peter’s equipment and techniques may have changed over time but his love of photographing the real world has remained. Many may call it “Street Photography”, he just think of it as “photography”.

He will take us through some examples of “Street Photography” from the days before hand held cameras through to the advent of the 35mm format and consider its impact on photography.

We will look at some different “styles” as well as what we can target when we get on the street. For anyone who can make it we will do a walkabout the Caloundra Markets this Sunday and try and put some of this into practice and see what we can see.

Just to be sure – that’s Wednesday next 27th September – hopefully we’ll see you in our clubroom then!

Humour me!

Perhaps the funniest thing I’ve done all week is to wait until just a few hours before it starts to send out a reminder of tonight’s share night!

OOPS!

And don’t forget the greatest, most anticipated competition of the year is closing tonight too. Even if your entry isn’t particularly funny, we’ll laugh at it, I promise!

CI YA tonight!

THE FUNNY BONE AWARD!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Announcing a VERY SPECIAL competition just for fun (and for selection as part of our club entry in the Tewantin Shield).

Now it’s your chance to bring us the sort of image you can never unsee, anything that gives us a giggle qualifies (as long as it’s suitable for kids).

One of the set subjects in the upcoming Tewantin Shield is “HUMOUR” and we have a dearth of images available for us to select.

There are fewer rules than usual, but the judges will also be less competent to make up for it.

That’s right folks – YOU WILL BE THE JUDGE

Here’s how it will go.

1) Upload your two most humorous images by the close of the competition (Share night 23 August)

2) We’ll have a proper judge assess them for selection, and you’ll be advised if your image is chosen, but no scores will be published.

3) JUDGING PROPER will take place over the three remaining share nights, in October, November and December and will take the form of a knockout competition judged by members present on each night.

The first round will comprise, images presented in random pairs and votes taken by show of hands for each image – the winner of each pair will qualify for the next round, which will proceed in a similar manner until only one pair remains and we find a winner!

Of course with such an opaque and prolonged process, there will be  plenty of opportunity for lobbying and corruptly tempting your fellow club members for voting favours.

4) THE TROPHY

Because this competition is not to be taken seriously, your committee at zero expense has commissioned a useless plastic edifice to be known as “The Funny Bone Award”.

It will be a perpetual award in the sense that you won’t dare thrown it away lest you should cause offence to its maker and of course the winner will feature on the front page of our website holding it.

The Zen of Seeing and Photography

On Wednesday next, we will be welcoming a very familiar face as our guest speaker! Keven Hyde will join us to deliver what promises to be an enlightening and entertaining presentation. Come along and discover :

  • How to unlock your creativity without thinking.
  • Find out when a chair is not a chair.
  • Find out what Zen is and how it assists us in connecting with what we are wanting to photograph.
  • How to stay in the present moment and be still, to stop the chatter of our endless thoughts.
  • The big secret about our mind and our unrelenting thoughts.
  • Why does a watched pot never boil.
  • This is a journey out of the mind, and into the potential of even better photos.

We hope to see you at our club meeting room, commencing at 7:00 pm on Wednesday next, 26th July.
