SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

Trip to Yamba & Clarence River

Dates: Thursday 19th to Monday/Tuesday 23rd/24th October 2023

Accommodation: Blue Dolphin Holiday Park (pet friendly, has both cabins and caravan/camp sites. Check the website or ph. 02 6646 2194. Or book a local motel – Yamba Motor Inn – again check their website on ph. 02 6646 1122.

Distance: 370 kms (approx 4 hour drive

Yamba is at the mouth of the Clarence River in NSW and has a beautiful surf beach, a large river and an expansive system of sandy tributaries which are a haven for birds and other wildlife. The river is home to a fleet of small trawlers which fish the river and provide plenty of local prawns (great photo opportunities too!). All the townships along the river to Grafton have small pubs which overlook the river and provide interesting colour. We plan to try a number of these during our visit. Iluka is across the river and is accessible by a short ferry ride. We are currently speaking to local camera groups and hope to have a meet-up during our stay. Please book your own accommodation (soon!) and let Ann know if you are coming – email Ann on abryan@bigpond.net.au, ph. 0411 486 939 See you there!

Bernd Stoffl is coming back!

Next Wednesday 24th May Bernd (Ben) Stoffl PSQA EFIAP FAPS will be making a welcome return to our Club this time as our guest speaker.

Ben will be dipping into his lifetime of experience to share the Photoshop Techniques that enable him to turn seemingly ordinary images into prize winners.

In his words:-

“In 2018 I went for 3 months to Europe. I had a full schedule of subjects/locations ( I drove more than 18000 km during that time). Therefore when I went to a preselected location and the weather was bad, I didn’t have the time to wait for better conditions – I had to take pictures of the subject.

(I believe anyway only bad photographers need good weather!)

Attached is the original image and the processed one of a preselected subject in France taken in June 2018 under bad weather conditions.”

This will be yet another unmissable share night!

See you there!

AUDIO VISUAL

We amateurs spent a lot of time, money and effort to capture images, but the majority of them remain hidden on our storage devices never, or rarely to be seen.

Yet in a digital world, where at no cost to ourselves, we can show the images we shoot in the form of high quality Mp4 videos. Many of us still choose to leave our images hidden away, and that begs the question why?

Maybe we think it’s too difficult, or we shy away from learning another computer program. A basic slide show, with music and animation can be made in 5 minutes. I know this because I’ve made a 5 minute YouTube video where that’s exactly what we did.

Next Wednesday 26th April at our Share Night, we’ll introduce PTE AV Studio, show you how simple audio visual can be, and show you one or two award winning sequences. If time permits we can look at animation, sound editing, even video clips too.

I hope to see you there!

Next Saturday, would you rather..

Next Saturday, would you rather be tucked up in bed with your Teddy in bed, or out and about watching the sunrise over Coolum with your Mates?

If the answer was “COOLUM!” which I’m sure it was, please phone or email Gerry as soon as possible (preferably right now!) to let him know.

We have been to Point Cartwright, Dicky Beach, Moffat Beach, Shelly Beach and now it’s Coolum’s turn.

We will be meeting there on Saturday the 22nd of April at Point Arkwright at 5.00 – 5.30 am.

Turn right into Dewar St off David Low Way, it runs into the Jubilee Esplanade, go along the Esplanade to a turn to the left off just before Andrew St. In there there is a car park. There is a path running down to the beach and rocks, plenty of rocks for foreground.

If you go along the David Low Way it is not too far past the golf course. You could also go along the Sunshine Motorway to the turn off to Coolum, turn right onto David Low Way.

Or of course you could just look up Dewar Street Coolum!!!

Breakfast will be at the Raw Energy Cafe 16/1776 David Low Way. The tide will not be very high that morning, so there will be plenty of rocks.

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY at night

Our Set Subject for June this year is Street Photography at Night, so why not come along to Palmwoods and have some fun trying to get a great image to enter! That’s one of mine above – obviously, there’s room for improvement! No need to go to the big city – we’ve got plenty of action happening in Palmwoods on a Friday night – Rick’s Garage, Piggyback, Choo Choo Bistro and lots of people around.

Here’s the details – meet at 5.00 pm (no later) at Piccabeen Green (Palmwoods Town Square), next to Palmwoods Hall, 1 Main Street, Palmwoods on FRIDAY 14th APRIL (give yourself time to find somewhere to park – wherever you can find a space in Palmwoods!). We will have dinner at Palmwoods Pub at 7.00 pm. Please let Ann know if you are coming – abryan@bigpond.net.au – see you there!
