SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

Australian Cup – Our awesome entries!

Our club’s entries for the Australian Cup have been submitted on your behalf.

Topic: Any image that shows a flavour of life in Australia including landscapes, people, iconic events and iconic places including architecture, birds and animals. Images may be taken in any of Australia’s territories.

NO COMPOSITES
Entries must be a single image as captured by the camera.
Images must not be ‘composite images’ that combine subjects or elements from different scenes — replacing a background or sky, for example.

Whilst we’ve used our best endeavours to select only single image photos, if you see one of your images below and it’s a composite, would you please let us know as soon as possible at di.east1000@gmail.com.

You can see all information regarding this competition on our website under External Competitions on the front page.

Phonography

If you thought phone cameras were just for selfies, you need to come to our next share night on Wednesday (22nd March). Our guest presenter, Lurline Slater is a telephone photography expert and lecturer in “iPhonography”.

Her talk will take us through camera alternatives, telephone options (not just iPhones), editing apps and accessories (including lenses!) as well as providing an overview of the other resources available and how to make use of them.

If you’ve never considered using your phone as a serious photographic device, her talk will undoubtedly give you something to think about or it might even confirm your worst fears.

If you are already dipping your toes in that particular water and are unsure of what to do next, well it may pay to bring a wetsuit because by the end of the night you may well be in water up to your neck!

Of course we also have a packed programme of other news and helpful hints and tips that no one will want to miss so we’ll see you there!

Please send your Sunshine Coast photos asap.

If you didn’t see our previous email, the topic for this year’s photo book is: Life on the Sunshine Coast – Highlighting Year 1 of the Sunshine Coast Photography Club.

We have a very early deadline on this book so we’re asking you to send asap:

  1. Your 2 best recent images of the Sunshine Coast for inclusion in the new book. We’ll choose the one that best complements the other photos i.e. everyone who sends images will have one image included in the book.
  2. A short paragraph about why each image is representative to you of the Sunshine Coast.

Your images can be landscapes, seascapes, people participating in local competitions or celebrations, local wildlife, in fact, anything that says Sunshine Coast to you. If possible we’d prefer them to be in landscape mode rather than portrait so they can be placed across two pages in the album.

To use our Momento Pro voucher, we need to submit the book for printing by 31st May, which doesn’t give us much to time to collate the images and prepare the book, so please send your paragraphs and 2 photos in high resolution as soon as possible, but no later than Friday 10th March to di.east1000@gmail.com

If you have any questions, feel free to phone me on 0417 070989. Di

What is fine Art?

Sue GORDON is visiting us on Wednesday next to share some of her experience and wisdom without wearing the”judges cap” that we are accustomed to seeing her in when she is here!

Sue will be presenting her thoughts on the collision between photography and fine art.   If you would like to have more quality images -the kind that makes you think “Wow! That could hang on the wall!” come and enjoy as Sue imparts some of here knowledge in her very down to earth style.

This presentation was incredibly well received at last year’s PSQ convention and she has been invited to present a different topic at the next convention, so consider this a preview of what is in store!

NEXT WEDNESDAY 22 FEBRUARY
DON’T MISS IT.

But wait there’s more! Annette will be presenting another “One on One”, and we’ll have a (very) quick overview of how our website works for the benefit of our new members or old ones who haven’t been paying attention!

See you there!

645-646

Those numbers are not the phone numbers of the local statue cleaning service, but our CORRECT bank BSB number.

If, like me, you have been using a different BSB number (the one that was on the website until this morning for instance, please change your banking records so that you can send us money.)

If, like our newest member (and we do apologise for mucking you around Jenny!), you have paid your fees using the old number, it might not have worked. Do please check your bank records to make sure the payment went through. Due to some sort of banking miracle – the old BSB was switched off on 1st December but “some” transactions (including mine) still work with it, so you might have been lucky.

Just to be clear our new bank details can be found in the “INFORMATION TO MEMBERS” link on our website, or right here. When making a payment please use the following:

BSB: 645-646 (Auswide Bank)
Account No.: 102 588 775
Reference: Your Name

Would you like to help with our 2023 Photo Book?

As a result of our winning entry in the 2022 APS Photo Book Competition, we have a $350 gift voucher from Momento Pro to be used by 31 May 2023.

Would you like to be part of the group being set up to work on a new book? We need you to help decide on a topic for this year and then progress the book through to printing, and then onto the final celebration! This was a fun process last year and is a great opportunity to learn more about putting together a quality photo book. Don’t worry if you feel you don’t have enough experience – some of last year’s group plan to put their hands up again and share their experience.

We hope to meet as soon as possible to get this one underway and submitted by the end of May. If you’re interested in becoming involved, please email me at di.east1000@gmail.com or phone 0417 070989.
