Are you a member of multiple camera clubs?
Interclub competitions administered by the Photographic Society of Qld (PSQ), are a great way to demonstrate your prowess as a photographer and at the same time share your success with your club. If you do well, then so do we as a club. It’s a real win/win scenario. For this reason Sunshine Coast Photography Club submits images to inter-club photo competitions on your behalf with images selected from your submissions to our monthly competitions.
However, if you are a member of multiple photography clubs (which you are entitled to be), then Interclub competitions restrict entries to one club only. If you are a member of multiple clubs you need you to let us know by email and confirm which is your primary club. Your club is penalised if more than one club submits your images. We need your response no later than Friday 5th April 2024 as we will then submit entries for the next competition.
The Photographic Society of Qld has confirmed:
Anyone who is a member of more than one club must designate one club as their primary when entering into interclub competitions and notify their other clubs that their images cannot be used for that club’s interclub entries.
We thank you for your co-operation.

To edit or not to edit, that is the question.
To edit or not to edit, that is indeed the question that echoes in the minds of many. We’ve all heard the call of the wild, taking us away from the computer and into the open, where our cameras await to capture moments frozen in time.
There’s a certain mystique surrounding the art of editing, often inflated beyond reason. It’s as if some believe it’s akin to scaling the heights of Mount Everest or navigating the intricate brushstrokes of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
But let’s set the record straight: editing doesn’t have to feel like a chore, in fact, with today’s advanced and user-friendly tools, it’s more akin to a creative dance, where each adjustment brings us closer to our vision.
And if you ever find yourself in need of guidance, don’t hesitate to lean on the expertise of your fellow club members. A simple request can unlock a treasure trove of knowledge, turning daunting tasks into collaborative endeavours.
Even if you’re comfortable around image editing, it’s always nice to see how others achieve their results.
Join us at our next Share Night on Wednesday 27th March when Barry Beckham will this explore the answers to this question with us, and no doubt leave us with much to ponder!!

CAMERA CAPERS 2024
Here’s a photo of some of us out and about on a bright, sunny day! Tomorrow, Sunday, is not looking quite so bright – HOWEVER, only showers are forecast, so please don’t let a little bit of the wet stuff put you off coming along tomorrow! Between the showers, I’m sure you will all get some terrific images – you will be shooting a variety of subjects, all of which you might be able to use in Open in upcoming competitions, so don’t waste the day worrying about the weather – come along and have a great time! If you do let the showers put you off, PLEASE DO COME TO LUNCH AT THE PUB! We have a booking for 30 people and we don’t want to let them down. See you all there tomorrow morning at 9.30 – looking forward to it!

Camera Capers 2024 – Sunday 10th March 2024 at 9.30 am
NO, we are not going to Toowoomba for Camera Capers, but we are going to a railway town – Landsborough! For those of you who have put your names on the list for Camera Capers (30 of us), we will meet in the QCWA Old Landsborough Road Park, on Old Landsborough Road, opposite the School of Arts at 9.30 am – as you come into Landsborough, turn left straight after the railway crossing (public toilets on the corner) and the park is a short distance along that road – plenty of parking. BYO morning tea/coffee or give yourself time to pick up a coffee and something yummy from the bakery before we meet! There is undercover seating at the park, but maybe throw a folding chair into the boot, just in case.
Camera Capers is a fun competition which will test your camera skills! Each photographer will be given a list of 12 subjects to photograph – the objective is to slow down, find your subject, look for the best composition – think about exposure etc – and shoot! ONCE! Easy! Except that only one image per subject is allowed! More information on the day!
We are booked for lunch at Landsborough Pub for 12 noon and I have to confirm the booking on Friday, so if for some reason you can’t make it, please let me know before then. We can’t add more to our lunch booking, but anyone else who didn’t put their name down is very welcome to come along and take part in Camera Capers. See you all next Sunday! Give me a call if you have any queries, Ann ph. 0411 486 939.

Photo Books at Share Night
Would you like to improve the quality of your photo books?
The guest speaker for our 28th February share night is Anne Pappalardo who has won places in numerous photo book competitions including multiple places for Australian Photographic Society as well as with her own club, Queensland Camera Club.
Anne’s 2003 entry to the APS photo book competition, New York People and Places, captures her experience of iconic locations and lifestyle in the Big Apple during a recent family trip. The judges commented on the ‘impressive presentation inside and out.’ They noted the ‘excellent selection of photos excellent design and great choice for cover shot which reflects crazy BNY life and makes me smile’ as well as the ‘beautiful presentation of images, design, typography and subject matter.
Our Plan:
The overall plan for our club is to provide information, so that interested members can prepare a quality photo book during the year which they can have critiqued before printing, and if they wish, submit it to the APS Photobook competition.
In a nutshell:
- 28 February share night. Anne’s presentation about what makes a quality/winning photobook.
- March to July. Allow our members time to work on their books. (This seems a long time, but we have a lot of people travelling in winter.)
- 2nd August share night. Paul Balfe to critique the books in either pdf or digital version.
- August. After the critique they can make changes if they wish, then,
- August. Print the books.
- September. Submit to APS Photobook competition.

Lightroom? Photoshop? MPC? Where do I start?!!
For all our new members (and not so new too), if you are struggling with post-processing of your images and would like to learn more about programmes such as Lightroom or Photoshop, then check out the Sunshine Coast U3A website – for a minimal charge they are offering courses for beginners on using Lightroom or Photoshop. Just google U3A and all the details are there! And our very own member, Barry Beckham, has some wonderful YouTube videos available online about almost everything you can possibly need to know about post-processing and all other aspects of photography. Many, many photographers have online tutorials about almost every aspect of photography and post-processing too. A number of our A Grade members are very willing to help and share their knowledge, not only about post-processing but also about using MPC. At our next meeting, if you need help, do please let me know and I can team you up with someone who will help you!

Join Our Facebook Group Now!
Our Facebook Group is very private, so private that you almost have to be born there to get in, but there are a lot of new members who might like to join us there, as well as a few existing ones perhaps. To be frank, it’s a bit of a pain issuing individual invitations, and I keep forgetting to do that, so…
Here’s a limited, once in a lifetime offer!
CLICK THIS LINK TO REQUEST TO JOIN. I still have to approve you at the other end, so we won’t be letting just anyone in – although your spouse is welcome.)
Note this link is only valid for two days so if you forget, you’ll have to contact me so we can sort you out the old fashioned way.
