SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

Coronavirus (Covid-19)

The following is the status of all CCG meetings and outings that now apply following discussion at the Committee Meeting last night.

March 22 – Pt Cartwright early morning photo shoot – this outing will go ahead and is to be attended at member discretion. All other outings until the end of April are now cancelled as is the proposed 3 day adventure to Maryborough from May 15 – 18.

March 25, April 22 – Share Nights – both meetings are cancelled.

April 8 – ‘Summer’ Competition night – part cancelled. Due to the logistics involved we will be cancelling the Print section of the April competition. To arrange a depot for the collection of prints, to then have them sorted into A & B Grades, then into each section and then transported to the judge in Brisbane could prove to be a nightmare. Instead all print images will receive a zero score in MPC. The good thing is you will be able to enter all those print images later in the year into any section of a competition you wish. Please enter your print images for our May competition as usual – a decision will be made closer to the date advising whether the print section will go ahead. The DPI section of our April competition will go ahead as normal. Judging for DPI’s is done remotely with the results posted on to MPC electronically in the usual manner.

We have no idea how long the current crisis will last, the committee will review the situation at committee meetings and advise you accordingly. All decisions made will be based on Government and health authorities advice and fir the well-being of our members.

If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact me.

Congratulations Lorraine and Jane

Two of our very clever members entered a photographic competition in Brisbane recently to celebrate International Women’s Day. Their entries were selected and exhibited at the recent Femme Exhibition held at CameraPro Brisbane.

Long Exposure Photography

Learn long exposure from those who have had the experience.

Meet at Point Cartwright at 5.15 on the 22nd of March, in the far car park.

From there we walk down onto the beach, there, there are rocks with the waves breaking over then. There will also be a chance to capture the sunrise if the clouds behave themselves.

The sun rises at 5.50 am, so we can be in position the witness that.

Breakfast will be at 7.30 am at One on La Balsa, giving us 2 hours to find the beautiful swirling water and photographing it.

Take Camera – Spare Battery – Tripod – Filters – Appropriate Clothing & Footwear

Ring me 0419 308 006 or place your name in the book at the next meeting.

How to Enter PSQ Salon of Excellence, 2020

The Photographic Society of Queensland Salon of Excellence is a State-wide competition for individual members of affiliated clubs. It is not a club entry competition.

  1. View/download and READ the SEQ 2020 Invitation. It contains details of the Subjects, Rules, Entry Procedures, and Definitions. Click here. The PDF is also available at Information for Members > Other Documents > SEQ 2020 Invitation_Amended OR at Where is It? > S > SEQ-2020-Invitation_Amended.pdf
  2. To access the PSQ-SEQ MyPhotoClub website go to: Members > (scroll down) > click PSQ Salon of Excellence Queensland icon. The SEQ website opens in a new tab.
  3. NOTE: At present (Feb. 15th), much of the information on the SEQ website has not been updated from 2019. The Gympie Camera Club are aware of this and hopefully will resolve these issues. All the necessary procedures for entering your images are working as required.
  4. On the home page, click the Green Button: “CLICK HERE TO ENTER 2020 PSQ SALON OF EXCELLENCE”
  5. If you have not set your club and grade details you will need to:
    1. Select Caloundra Camera Group from the drop-down list of clubs. NOTE: Your address details must contain the State (Queensland) and Country (Australia).
    2. Click the Green Button: “I belong to the selected club”
    3. If you are B-Grade, set Non-A Grade entrant to “Yes”
    4. Set “Agree to terms” to “Yes”
    5. Click Red Button: “Save options”
  6. Click the Blue Button: *** PROCEED TO THE 2020 PSQ SALON OF EXCELLENCE ENTRY FORM *** (On subsequent sessions, you will be able to start here.)
  7. On the Upload Entries page, you have two options for uploading your images: You can upload a new image that is not already on the Caloundra MPC website, OR, you can enter an existing image from your collection of entries on the Caloundra MPC site:
  8. To upload a new image, use the “CLICK TO ADD OR DRAG IMAGE FILE HERE” box, as usual.
  9. To select an already existing image, click the Green Button: “SELECT FROM EXISTING UPLOADED IMAGES”
    1. On your existing images page, click the thumbnail image in the “View Images” column.
    2. Click the Blue Button: “ENTER THIS IMAGE IN 2020 PSQ SALON OF EXCELLENCE”
    3. NOTE: To conform to the rules, the image title must be the same as the JPEG file name. The Title/File Name is limited to 35 characters (special characters or symbols not allowed) — keep your title concise! The simplest procedure is to name each file with just the Title before entering it.
    4. Choose the category of your entry and click SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY.
    5. Use the blue button: “VIEW OR REMOVE ENTRIES” to verify that your image is entered.
  10. You can repeat this process as many times as you want up to the closing date.
  11. Pay the total calculated entry fee only after you have completed uploading all your entries.
  12. To enter an Audio Visual, upload a JPEG image of the Title Page of the A/V entry.
