Tewantin Shield Day Out and our November Comp Night
Hi folks – no that is not a picture of the Tewantin Shield (it’s our “Most Improved” trophy and was the only photo I had of a shield!!) But this is a post about Tewantin Shield Day Out, which will take place next Saturday, 7th October at Gympie Camera Club’s Clubhouse, 39 Saleyard Road, Gympie Q 4570, arrive 8.30 am for a 9 am start. Cost is $5 a head, plus sausage sizzle lunch for sale, raffles etc (so bring a few $$). Morning tea provided and photography activities are planned for the morning with a guest speaker too. Judging of all the entries (including ours) will take place after lunch. Do come along for a great day out (we are going) and stay for the judging – its a chance to see how judging of an external competition takes place. Please let me know if you are coming by Tuesday 5 pm, for catering purposes (Ann 0411 486 939 or abryan@bigpond.net.au).
And a VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER! Images for our own November competition (set subject Light Painting) must be entered onto MPC by this Wednesday, 4th October – a week earlier than usual as our November Competition Night is on Wednesday 1st November.

Candid Photography in a Public Place

Street is Neat – with some practice afterwards!
While next year’s set subject list hasn’t been finalised, a little birdy has been whispering that one of the subjects might possibly maybe involve Street Photography.
Just to be sure everyone is up to speed on what that might be, on Wednesday night we will welcome back our guest speaker Peter Mitchelson.
Like most of us, Peter’s equipment and techniques may have changed over time but his love of photographing the real world has remained. Many may call it “Street Photography”, he just think of it as “photography”.
He will take us through some examples of “Street Photography” from the days before hand held cameras through to the advent of the 35mm format and consider its impact on photography.
We will look at some different “styles” as well as what we can target when we get on the street. For anyone who can make it we will do a walkabout the Caloundra Markets this Sunday and try and put some of this into practice and see what we can see.
Just to be sure – that’s Wednesday next 27th September – hopefully we’ll see you in our clubroom then!
