November Share Night — Tutorial Presentations by Rhonda and Jane Available for Download
The tutorial presentations by Rhonda Reynolds (Making Audio-Visual Presentations) and Jane Weir (Making “Urban Cowboy”) can now be downloaded. The links are at the top of the “Learning and Sharing” page. They can also be found in the “Where Is It?” list of links.
Note: Jane Weir’s 2018 presentation explaining how to resize images in Photoshop for competition entry has been updated to reflect the increase in allowable image size to 1920 × 1080 pixels.

What is Art
Our Judge for the November digital image competitions, Jenny Graff, is the first judge from memory who has disqualified images from the ART competition, for not meeting the definition.
Our definition is Photography that moves beyond literal representation, and Jenny found images that she thought did not do this. From her point of view, any image that does demonstrate a move from the literal was acceptable. This included a line of MG’s that had the tail lights changed from red to blue.
This brings me to my point. To satisfy the definition, we need to demonstrate to the viewer that the image has been transformed, not just think to ourselves that we have done a transformation. In reality this can be quite simple, but it needs to demonstrate a transformation has been applied. And unfortunately it can rule out some good and very artistic images. So please make sure that you enter Art images according to the definition into the Art category, and anything else needs to be entered in the Open category.
And finally the idea of the Art category is to encourage members to to push their images and themselves beyond what we have been doing and feel comfortable with, and into new and unexplored territory.

Annual Print and DPI Entries
Some members are experiencing a problem with Annual Print and DPI entries. The necessary steps are as follows:
- Go to: Enter Competitions > MEMBERS AREA
- In the “2019 collections open for entry list”, click either “Upload for Annual Prints” or “Upload for Annual Digital
- On the “Upload Entries …” page, click “SELECT FROM EXISTING UPLOADED IMAGES”
- In the list of your existing entries, find the image you want to enter and CLICK ON THE THUMBNAIL OF THAT IMAGE
- An enlarged version of the image is displayed. Click on “ENTER THIS IMAGE IN ANNUAL DIGITAL/PRINT”
- Back on the “Upload Entries …” page, click the category you want to enter the image into and then click “SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY”
- You can then “View or remove entries” and print your ID labels for print entries as usual.
This procedure differs slightly from the Annual Trophies entry procedure because it was set up after the new MEMBERS AREA was created. I strongly advise all members to use the new Members Area for all comp entries because the old comp entry procedure will be removed in mid November.
