The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

Coming soon – THE PROJECT 2021-2022

Building on the experience of our 2019 “Project” we are now looking for members who are interested in working cooperatively in a small group to further their photographic experience.

In broad terms we are seeking to explore Pure Art Photography, with a view to creating a gallery exhibition of our collective works by June 2022. Initially a suggested bi-monthly meeting schedule is envisaged, but the group may decide on a different schedule is necessary for reasons of its own.

The brief will be developed by the group as the project evolves, however some initial thoughts are as follows:

Pure Art Photography

Not an image you change in Photoshop, but an image that you can use Photoshop to explain it’s being.
It may use minimalism, it may be b&w, it may be colour, it may be from a table top studio, it may be none of these.
It will not be a busy image.
It will be artistic.

The  “Not an image you change in Photoshop”   needs a little explaining, what is meant by that is “a photograph of something ordinary can not be jazzed up in photoshop”.

Whereas an image can be made into something, from an image that can be explained in photoshop, to what the maker has in mind.

Photoshop does not have to be an essential tool, in the making of this kind of image.

I would like to see that we start off getting to know what we are about, then making an image which we all agree is what we are after.

We would finish up making a number of images, to be decided on by the group, which then could be exhibited not just in our club, but wherever we can.

Last year the presidents trophy is the kind of thing I am thinking of, but last year only a couple of the prints came close to what I had in mind, not necessarily flowers though.

STARRY, STARRY NIGHTS!

Come along to Share Night next Wednesday (26 May) to learn how to make your photos POP using a dynamic sky with a static foreground.

Phil’s Tyrer  interest in photography goes back over 40 years but over recent years he has been enjoying the challenges of low light photography.  He dosen’t own star trackers or telescopes so his photography is based around pushing DSLR cameras to the technical limit to extract as much information in the night sky as possible.  He really enjoys landscape photography which gets interesting when managing a dynamic night sky with a static foreground but says  it’s relatively easy to achieve great results once the fundamentals are understood.

He will provide information on preplanning, camera settings, technical challenges, tips and tricks and touch on post processing too.  He will also provide a handout which will be a  practical  point of reference when out in the field.  So come along and have a bit of fun and learn how to reach for the stars and make your night photography POP!

COME FLY WITH ME.

Have you ever wanted to take your own aerial photos? Next Wednesday YOU CAN! READ THIS CAREFULLY to find out how.

Our Presenter for this month’s Share Night on the 28th April is Drone photographer Rich Johnston from Garricks Camera House.

Rich is offering a chance for all those who are interested in a TRY/FLY experience which will start promptly at 5.00 pm at Bill’s Boat Hire Esplanade Golden Beach before returning to the Club to down load YOUR photos and for the Presentation on Drone Photography.

The reason for the 5.00 pm start is that the light is starting to fade quite quickly and there are restrictions on using Drones once it is dark. It has taken over two months to procure a Drone photographer for your benefit and Rich has not only come to the forefront but has offered for YOU to have a go at flying one so please give your support by being a part of the TRY/FLY experience.

Rich’s Presentation  will revolve around the drone being his non-work-related photography, what he considers to be his air borne camera passion which separates his normal life photography by hundreds of feet vertically. This all began with his passion for flying since he was a young man building and flying model aircraft. It wasn’t  long before attaching a very low-res camera to the model aircraft and retrieved what were simply terrible images.  He has come a long way since then and is looking forward to sharing his passion on this side of his photographic with you all on the 28th.

Mooloolah Day Out

This Sunday the 11th, we are going to the Mooloolah Tunnel.

It’s an old railway tunnel, no railway lines left, as well as the tunnel there is some attractive eucalyptus forest, good for ICM, insects, birds and beautiful trees.

Bring camera, tripod, and flash.  Good walking boots and suitable clothes.

We will meet at the corner of Dorson Drive and Paget Street, Mooloolah at 10.30 am, there is a little track on the right, that leads into the forest, we can park in there.

After photographing everything in sight we will retire to the Cafe Mooloolah on the corner of Jones Road and Bray Road, to discuss our images, sorry no cherry ripes.

I have a few names, could you let me know, if your intending to come on Sunday.

Sunshine Coast Camera Club Canada

As some will be aware, we have been talking via Zoom with the Sunshine Coast Camera Club in British Columbia Canada for a month or so.

We are now ready to go a little further with them.

The SCCC is a little smaller club than ours, we have decided to have a Zoom meeting with them on the Friday the 23rd of April at 12 noon, that will be 7pm Thursday for them.

For this meeting each club will show 20 images of the area where we live, as stated below.

We CCG will need to have our photographs ready by the 19th of April for them to be arranged into a slide show so that on the 23rd we can show the people of the SCCC where we live.  We will be able to place them into our website under SCCC competition.

Wide range of topics that could include a local schools, some business, streets, your house, landscapes, seascapes, local folks, environment, wildlife, farming, transport, etc.

As each image is on our screens the maker of the images will have up to 1 minute to explain where the image was taken and what it is, and anything else that is relevant.

We would hope that the comments can be light and casual with some humour.

After that has come to its conclusion we will have time for members of both clubs to tell some stories, what we have coming up etc.etc.

We will pursue subsequent meetings twice a year or so.

Those details will be worked out a little later.

We will need those who wish to, to enter 3 photographs, there will be a competition site on our website.

We will have a couple of us to go through the images and choose 20, the makers of those 20 will be the people who make a 1 minute comment on their images.

So set out there if you can and follow the list, this not a competition, we are just showing them on the other side of the world where we live as they will also be doing.

TIME’S UP! Shoot and Move! 23rd March.

Have you ever missed a photo opportunity because you were too slow off the mark, or been in a situation where you had limited time, such as on an organized excursion?  Maybe your partner is just fed up with waiting around while you are concentrating on shooting the photo of the year?

Well help is at hand as our next Share Night will give you the opportunity to hone in on that skill and have fun doing so with our Shoot and Move session.

All will be revealed on the night but whatever you do do not forget your camera!
