SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING UPDATE

Hi All,

Just a quick update for those who were not able to attend on Wednesday night 14th September, which was a combined SGM and Competition night. An excellent roll up and thank you for all those who attended.

Also, thanks again to Barbara Brown for doing the judging. She made it a very entertaining night and hope we can have her back again. Her comments from an artist’s perspective, were very insightful and I think provided a lot of creative food for thought.

Many wonderful images and congratulations to Di East and Clive Hammond for the images of the night in the Print and DPI categories respectively.

Our President Gerry Gibson had called for the Special General Meeting (with endorsement of the Committee and in accordance with the Constitution), to consider a name change for our Club. The night commenced with the SGM and after reading of the proposal and some constructive discussion, a vote was taken by Financial Members, for the proposed name change to:

Sunshine Coast Photography Club Inc., or

Sunshine Coast Photographic Club Inc.

Two alternative names were required for the submission for registration of the new name to the Office of Fair Trading.

Voting on the night was:

25 Votes in the Affirmative

3 Proxy Votes in the Affirmative

1 Vote No; and

1 Vote Abstain

The motion was subsequently carried.

The next stage will be to finalise the submission to the Office of Fair Trading for endorsement and registration of the new name. We will work on this as a priority, to ensure we have the approval before the end of year and report back as soon as we get confirmation or if there are any issues with the Office of Fair Trading.

As previously noted, we will not start using the new name until after the AGM, which will be scheduled for February 2023.

I have also included in the header to this note, the proposed new Club Logo. If you have any thoughts on how this could be improved, let me know, and we can discuss further through the remainder of this year.

Cheers

Stanthorpe Trip

Photo by David Bryan from our recent trip to Lake Redbrook.

Thursday 27th to Monday 31st October, (stay longer or shorter if you wish).

If you’re joining us for this exciting long weekend away at Stanthorpe, you need to book your motel room or caravan/tent site as soon as possible. Accommodation is at the Top of the Town Tourist Park, phone 07 4681 4888. Let them know you’re with CCG and talk to Catrina if you have any issues. Please email Ann at abryan@bigpond.net.au once you’ve made your booking.

So far, the following people have their names down: Ann & David, Ralph & Barb, Ken & Colleen, John & Denise, Alison, Di & Geoff.

It would be great to have a few more people coming along as there is a lot to do in the Stanthorpe area and Ann has some fun events planned.  Ralph is going to contact Stanthorpe Camera Club and see if we can get together with them while we are there.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

WEDNESDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2022, 7PM

Hi All,

As you may be aware, a small Sub-Committee group was invited by the Committee earlier this year to review the potential for a name change for the Caloundra Camera Group Inc. This group comprised a number of members including Ray White, Di East, Ken Brooks, Ann Bryan, Ty Fox, and Gerry Gibson, and were requested to report back to Committee with recommendations and proposals for a potential transition to a new name, which included any hurdles that a name change might present.

The Committee first considered this proposal earlier this year, and voted by majority to consider a name change to the Club.

The intention is a means of transforming our Club into an organisation that may better represent the Sunshine Coast by geographic boundaries, rather than by the City of Caloundra.

The Committee considered that, after 25 years since the Club’s inception, the current name was not representative of the spread of the current club membership. It was also considered that, given the reduction over time in club membership, a name change might also attract a wider spread of new applicants to the club.

The recommendation of the Sub-Committee was to proceed with a name change and the following names were suggested:

  • Sunshine Coast Photography Club Inc.
  • Sunshine Coast Photographic Club Inc.

Two names must be considered as application for incorporation with the Office of Fair Trading, will require an alternative name is proposed, (if a similar name has already been incorporated). It was also recommended that the Club Logo is updated with the new name and to include “Founded in 1997”

It is envisaged that this process of a name change would be timed to formally coincide with the date of our Annual General Meeting, in February 2023. It is also understood that minimal costs to the club for incorporation will be necessary.

In order to commence this process, a Special General Meeting will be called on Competition Night, Wednesday 14th September 2022 at 7pm, to allow Members to vote on this proposal. A formal notification will be sent out shortly to all Members individually, and will also include a Proxy Form for those who are unable to attend.

The Committee would encourage all Members to attend if they are able to make it on the night, or submit a proxy form as applicable. It is hoped the meeting will not impact significantly on the judging night, but will need to start at 7pm sharp.

Cheers

Annette finally gets to Africa

The presentation will mainly be around travelling with camera gear and sharing some wonderful experiences.

I have been lucky enough to convince Andrew Goodall to come along and share his wisdom about travel photography and also share some of his amazing photography. I will also share some of mine. We want to run it like a Q and A session so if you are thinking of hitting the road or the air, this is the share night for you.

There will chocolates involved for those who can answer all the questions at the end.. Yes I am bribing you to come along. ?
You will need to bring your phone and hopefully we can get enough service to run the program I need.

Look forward to seeing you there…..

Come to Stanthorpe with us…

Photo from last weekend’s trip to Lake Redrook – Vintner’s Secret Winery

We are planning a four day trip to Stanthorpe and surrounds at the end of October – arriving into Stanthorpe on Thursday 27th and leaving Monday 31st October 2022.

The plan will be to stay in one of the local caravan parks, where cabins are also available.  Excursions to Wallangarra Station, Girraween National Park and Donnellys Castle are planned, together with visits to local wineries, the cheese factory and other local produce suppliers.

Please email Ann Bryan on abryan@bigpond.net.au if you are interested and are available at that time to come and join in the fun!

Cover photos for our entry in the APS Inter-club Photo Book Competition.

Thanks very much to those who have sent us your wonderful images for our cover photo. We’d like to have some more to choose from and of course, we’re looking for an image that screams Sunshine Coast and can cover either the front and back covers of our square album or wide enough to wrap around both. We didn’t receive many sunrises or sunsets in the first batch so we’re keen for those as well.

If you have a photo that you’re happy for us to use could you please send it to Di at di.east1000@gmail.com

We’re happy to receive your photos in any size at this point but may ask the maker of the final image/s for a larger format.

It would help if you could send your images by this coming Friday evening (12th August).

Thanks for your help.

PS: This book is starting to look AMAZING!!!

by Di East, August 8, 2022

Call for photos!

As you all know, there are a group of us putting together a Photobook for the APS Photobook awards this year. The book is coming together really well, thanks to the amazing photos and words you have all sent in so far – thanks so much!

We have one more request of you all please. To top off the book, we need an amazing cover photo for our book. We are looking for a photo that screams “Sunshine Coast”. If you have a photo that you think is perfect and are happy for us to use could you please send it to Di at di.east1000@gmail.com

We have a few formatting requirements to make sure that your photo looks as amazing as possible on our cover. Any photo you send must be

  • 5000 x 3500 pixels (at a minimum)
  • as high a resolution as possible
  • one that you would be happy for us to crop a little if we need to

We will need these photos by this Friday (5th August) at the latest. Thanks in advance.

Invitation to Judging

River City Print Competition 2022 has now closed and your prints have been delivered. Judging will be carried out on Saturday 30th July from 1pm to 5pm.

We’ve been invited to take a small delegation of members to the judging and would like to hear from anyone interested in being involved and seeing how interclub judging is done.

This will be at Space Hall, cnr Branton street and Pale Street, Kenmore Hills (Brisbane) so we would try to arrange to travel together.

Can you please email me at di.east1000 or phone 0417 070 989 if you’d like to be included?
