SUNSHINE COAST PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

The Sunshine Coast Photography Club (formerly The Caloundra Camera Group) is one of the oldest Clubs of its type in the region. It was incorporated in 1997 and is affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

The club offers members a wide range of excursions, social activities and photography competitions in a supportive environment for all skill levels.

New members are always welcome regardless of photographic experience or equipment as we strive to encourage the development of photographic skills and knowledge so that we all may achieve and share a greater enjoyment of the art of photography.

THE BEACH IS CLOSED!

Contrary to the notice sent out just a few short hours ago and as previously advised, the Surf, Show and Shine event will NOT be proceeding at the present time, and the competition will NOT be proceeding for the moment.

We do apologise for any confusion caused and will keep you posted when the re-scheduling is announced. In the meantime we’ll keep all of the entries we’ve received very safe and out of the reach of harmful UV rays, so you can be sure they’ll be in tip top condition when the competition comes back on line!

Thanks for your endless patience,

Peter H

You can’t photograph THAT!!

If you haven’t been told by someone somewhere that you “can’t take a photo here” then you haven’t been trying. When that happens, even if you think you are in the right, little seeds of doubt start to creep in.

Be informed!

At our next share night (this Wednesday 26th October) our guest speaker will be Peter Mitchelson who will outline exactly where and what we can do.

Of course that won’t be all. I’m sure we’ll be able to personally congratulate all those who participated in the production our hugely successful 25th Anniversary photo book, and perhaps we’ll have an opportunity to learn a little more of the history of the club when Annette conducts another “One on One” with one our our life members – Rhonda Reynolds.

See you there!

What a great Book

What a great job our book committee did. Di, Trefor, Doug, Tony, Ty, Luc and I did a little also, we had quite a few meetings, we selected the best images from members competition entries and placed them in the winning order. I don’t think we could have done it without Kathy’s tea, coffee, biscuits and cake. Thanks Kathy. There were a couple of members of this committee, without who’s work, talent, and hours spent going over the layout, proof reading etc. this outcome would not have eventuated. We will in time learn who they were. And then, there is of course the great photographs our club members have produced, that filled the pages of this great Coastal Exposure.

Results of APS Photo Book Competition – CCG wins…

Woohoo – how absolutely fabulous is our club????

I am very excited to tell you that Caloundra Camera Group’s entry ‘Coastal Exposure’ was chosen in First Place in the Camera Club Section of the Awards. As a result, our club will receive a cash prize of $150 from the APS Print Group, together with a $350 voucher from our generous sponsors at Momento Pro.

For us to be able to pull off first prize at our first attempt is amazing and just goes to show how talented a team we have. Congratulations to all those in the photo book group for their efforts and to the many other members of CCG who had bit parts in this production. Of course we couldn’t have done it without all of your fabulous photos. Onwards and upward CCG!!!

Time to celebrate – this is an awesome outcome!

I know you all want to see the book and our first place will delay its return, but at the latest, we plan to be able to show it off at our Christmas party on Saturday 10th December.

It’s time to update your Fridge Messages!

It’s that time of year when messages come thick and fast, so watch your inboxes daily, and there’s no point in us sending them out if you aren’t going to pin them on your metaphoric fridge!

THE NEXT COMPETITION NIGHT IS SOONER THAN YOU THINK!

Please don’t forget that the next Competition Night is on Wednesday the 2nd November. This does cause some confusion, but it makes judging end of year competitions and preparing awards in time for our annual dinner just a tiny more possible in the timeframe we have.

ANNUAL COMPETITIONS ARE CLOSING SOONER THAN YOU THINK.

You probably all think that they are closing on 4th November, which is actually very soon, and technically they are, but it would be a very big help if you could bring your ANNUAL COMPETITION print entries to the Competition Night on Wednesday 2nd of November.

If for some reason you can’t possibly do that before the 4th, please let Alison know and she’ll sort it out.

THE CANADA VS AUSTRALIA COMPETITION IS CLOSING EXACTLY WHEN YOU THINK IT IS!

Friday the 4th will be a big day for those of us who leave things till the day before they are due…. just saying!

Canada vs Australia – PHOTO COMPETITION

This year’s trans-national  competition between ourselves and the “other” Sunshine Coast Camera Club in Canada is closing very shortly!   (4th November).  We have arranged for judges from both countries to be involved, and this year we will be sharing the results on a combined Zoom meeting to take place on 26th November – more details to follow, but save that date.

COMPETITION DETAILS

All images must be made within the last two years, with two entries per member with the theme “HOME”:

“This year’s theme is the concept of ‘home,’ and what that means to each of our club members.

The word ‘home’ means many things to many people; from the literal (houses and rooms), to the social (community and family), into the emotional and abstract (sense of belonging, and being cared for).

We encourage you all to reflect on how you want to express your interpretation of the theme, and how you can incorporate the elements particular to our respective sunshine coasts into those reflections.

To effectively communicate your interpretation of the theme it’ll be important to pick an appropriate title to accompany your photograph.”

HOW TO ENTER

Just enter in the normal way! Because it’s a busy time of year, you might have to scroll down a bit to find the competition entry button but it’s there right at the bottom of the annual competitions (you may as well enter those too while you are there!)

END OF YEAR COMPETITION POINTSCORES

Hi All,

As we are approaching the end of year and of course the annual awards night on the 10th December 2022, it is customary to hide the point-scores on MPC in order to generate some the suspense for the big night, with 2 remaining competitions still to be judged.

As of 7th November 2022 (this Friday) the point scoring system will be turned off. If you want to check your progressive scores to date, you will have until midnight on the 7th to review.

Happy Photography
