AGM 2024

Hi All,

It’s that time of year again, when we have our Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled on the 28th February 2024. We would like to get the meeting underway at 7:15pm to ensure there is plenty of time left for our Share Night programme. If you could arrive early that would be appreciated. Please lock this important date into your diaries.

I will be sending out all the relevant information shortly, in advance of the meeting, so hope to see you there. As normal, all Committee positions will be declared open, so if you want to contribute to the Club from a Committee perspective, please consider putting your name forward. Most positions have renominated for 2024, with the exception of the Secretary.

I will be stepping down from the Committee after several years, so please consider if you would like to nominate for the role of Secretary.

I am not going anywhere and will continue to provide my full support to the Committee and the new Secretary to ensure a seamless transition is achieved.

See you all on the 28th

Cheers

PSQ Judges Forum

Hi All,

We received this invitation from PSQ recently. For those who might be interested in pursuing judging as an affiliated judge with PSQ please read following.

If you could let me know if you are interested and when I receive the link I will forward it to you.

“I would like to extend an invitation to the Judge’s Forum to be held via ZOOM on September 16 at 2:00 p.m. It is open to accredited judges, understudies and any of your club members considering becoming a judge.
I know our clubs have many very talented photographers, and PSQ provides a service to your clubs and needs more people to step up for the benefit of all our members.
The judge’s manual is available to download from the PSQ Website and details the role of a judge. It is not an arduous task, and the more load can be spread, the better for everyone.
A link to log into the ZOOM session will be sent a few days before; everyone is free to attend. I encourage your members to participate in the session and come along to listen to our guest speakers.

Cheers

END OF YEAR COMPETITION POINTSCORES

Hi All,

As we are approaching the end of year and of course the annual awards night on the 10th December 2022, it is customary to hide the point-scores on MPC in order to generate some the suspense for the big night, with 2 remaining competitions still to be judged.

As of 7th November 2022 (this Friday) the point scoring system will be turned off. If you want to check your progressive scores to date, you will have until midnight on the 7th to review.

Happy Photography

25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – ASSISTANCE REQUIRED

Hi All,

As you are aware, we are planning the 25th Anniversary of the Club’s foundation on the 13th November 2022, at the Caloundra Power Boat Club, commencing at 11:30am.

The Committee and a sub Committee comprising of Annette Scott, Ty Fox, Colleen and Ken Brooks, Rae Bussie, Denise Organ and Jeff Heck have been busy planning the event with lots of exciting things on the agenda for the day.

We are also proposing to develop some slide shows from images submitted by members for any events or outings that the Club has participated in over the years. It is hoped that we can showcase the many members that have participated in our club.

To this end, we request that if anyone has images that they would like to share for the slide show, if you can post them on MPC. We have set up a competition style site on MPC which is titled “25th Anniversary”. This will not be an actual competition but a place which we all know, from where the images can then be down loaded for the side show. A maximum of 5 entries are available from each member and it will close on the 6th of November. As an added interest item, could we all identify where the images were taken and the date as the title.

We will also be using images from the Momento book as a separate slide show.

In addition we will be setting up the Club’s print trestles on the day, so if everyone is able to share one or two of their favourite print images, that will be great. We will ask for these prior to the day, so that they can be set up before everyone arrives.

We will be in touch with further updates as they become available.

Cheers

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING UPDATE

Hi All,

Just a quick update for those who were not able to attend on Wednesday night 14th September, which was a combined SGM and Competition night. An excellent roll up and thank you for all those who attended.

Also, thanks again to Barbara Brown for doing the judging. She made it a very entertaining night and hope we can have her back again. Her comments from an artist’s perspective, were very insightful and I think provided a lot of creative food for thought.

Many wonderful images and congratulations to Di East and Clive Hammond for the images of the night in the Print and DPI categories respectively.

Our President Gerry Gibson had called for the Special General Meeting (with endorsement of the Committee and in accordance with the Constitution), to consider a name change for our Club. The night commenced with the SGM and after reading of the proposal and some constructive discussion, a vote was taken by Financial Members, for the proposed name change to:

Sunshine Coast Photography Club Inc., or

Sunshine Coast Photographic Club Inc.

Two alternative names were required for the submission for registration of the new name to the Office of Fair Trading.

Voting on the night was:

25 Votes in the Affirmative

3 Proxy Votes in the Affirmative

1 Vote No; and

1 Vote Abstain

The motion was subsequently carried.

The next stage will be to finalise the submission to the Office of Fair Trading for endorsement and registration of the new name. We will work on this as a priority, to ensure we have the approval before the end of year and report back as soon as we get confirmation or if there are any issues with the Office of Fair Trading.

As previously noted, we will not start using the new name until after the AGM, which will be scheduled for February 2023.

I have also included in the header to this note, the proposed new Club Logo. If you have any thoughts on how this could be improved, let me know, and we can discuss further through the remainder of this year.

Cheers

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

WEDNESDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2022, 7PM

Hi All,

As you may be aware, a small Sub-Committee group was invited by the Committee earlier this year to review the potential for a name change for the Caloundra Camera Group Inc. This group comprised a number of members including Ray White, Di East, Ken Brooks, Ann Bryan, Ty Fox, and Gerry Gibson, and were requested to report back to Committee with recommendations and proposals for a potential transition to a new name, which included any hurdles that a name change might present.

The Committee first considered this proposal earlier this year, and voted by majority to consider a name change to the Club.

The intention is a means of transforming our Club into an organisation that may better represent the Sunshine Coast by geographic boundaries, rather than by the City of Caloundra.

The Committee considered that, after 25 years since the Club’s inception, the current name was not representative of the spread of the current club membership. It was also considered that, given the reduction over time in club membership, a name change might also attract a wider spread of new applicants to the club.

The recommendation of the Sub-Committee was to proceed with a name change and the following names were suggested:

  • Sunshine Coast Photography Club Inc.
  • Sunshine Coast Photographic Club Inc.

Two names must be considered as application for incorporation with the Office of Fair Trading, will require an alternative name is proposed, (if a similar name has already been incorporated). It was also recommended that the Club Logo is updated with the new name and to include “Founded in 1997”

It is envisaged that this process of a name change would be timed to formally coincide with the date of our Annual General Meeting, in February 2023. It is also understood that minimal costs to the club for incorporation will be necessary.

In order to commence this process, a Special General Meeting will be called on Competition Night, Wednesday 14th September 2022 at 7pm, to allow Members to vote on this proposal. A formal notification will be sent out shortly to all Members individually, and will also include a Proxy Form for those who are unable to attend.

The Committee would encourage all Members to attend if they are able to make it on the night, or submit a proxy form as applicable. It is hoped the meeting will not impact significantly on the judging night, but will need to start at 7pm sharp.

Cheers

RAY MARTINA Photography Journey
Veteran Journalist & Award Winning TV PersonalityRay Martin has been, what he calls,  “a closet photographer” for over half a century. Paid to TELL the story – not take the pictures – Ray was always being told to “ put the damn camera down” by producers & tv cameramen at Four Corners & 60 Minutes. Thankfully, he didn’t. To prove it, there’s a catalogue of photographs, a number of exhibitions & a book with his pictures, published by Melbourne University Press a few years ago, called “Ray Martin’s World”.
Martin says he’s like ‘The Man from American Express’ – he never leaves home without his camera! Photos from commercial planes at 37,000 feet have become a specialty.
He’s got a million stories to tell of exotic places he’s been, and strange people he’s met; including some truly great photographers.

What’s Ray Martin going to reveal ? Well, as they say in the news business …”Watch This Space”.
Program 11.30am – 12:30pm

MOMENTS IN AUSTRALIAN PHTOGRAPHGY
Dr.Martyn JollyHonorary Associate Professor, School of Art & Design,

The sixtieth anniversary of the APS is a good time to explore different ways of thinking about the history of Australian photography. As a photo historian previously involved in art schools and art galleries I come from a tradition where the story of photography in Australia is usually told through individual photographers or artistic movements.A recent book I co-wrote, ‘Installation View’, focussed instead on photography exhibitions, rather than individual photographers.

This made me realize the importance of clubs, societies and groups to photography in Australia.

However, their importance to the whole story has perhaps been overlooked. In a free ranging, informal, discussion I will look at some moments in Australia photography through the lens of the ‘group of enthusiasts’.
