We are seeking expressions of interest into a club trip to Carnarvon Gorge next year. Hidden in the rugged ranges of Queensland’s central highlands, Carnarvon Gorge features towering sandstone cliffs, vibrantly coloured side gorges, diverse flora and fauna and Aboriginal rock art. A walking path extends the length of the gorge with side paths leading to various areas of interest such as the Moss Garden, Wards Canyon, The Amphitheatre and more. Further information on Carnarvon Gorge may be found here: https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/carnarvon-gorge/about.

The walking tracks in Carnarvon Gorge are Grade 3 or 4. A moderate or higher standard of fitness is required. Information on walking track grades can be found here: https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/164104/track-trail-classification.pdf.

Accommodation would be at Takarakka. Per night prices are; Powered sites $36, Safari Tents $105, Ensuite Safari Tents $145 with other more luxurious options up to $225. More information on Takarakka can be found here: https://www.takarakka.com.au/.

Dates: April 29th to May 6th.

The distance to Carnarvon Gorge is approximately 700 kms so it may be preferable for a relaxed trip to split the journey over 2 days. Leaving April 29th we would arrive at our accommodation on the 30th. Staying 5 nights we would leave on May 5th and return home on May 6th. That would allow 4 full days to explore the gorge.

Those who do not wish to explore the Gorge should bear in mind there is not much by way of alternative, low energy activities in the area.

If you would be interested in this trip, please respond directly to me ASAP at greg.larchin@bigpond.com. If we have enough interest to justify planning the trip, I will get to work on it and provide more detail in due course. Please note there is no obligation at this stage, you will have a further opportunity to opt in or out.
